TO CALM DOWN MEANS – TO TAKE A PAUSE.
TO STOP AND REFLECT BEFORE YOU ACT.
TO BE SERENE AND MAINTAIN COMPOSURE.
TO CEASE FIRE AND RE-STRATEGIZE!
TO STOP AND DOUBLE CHECK!
GNB – Pro 16:32 It is better to be patient than powerful. It is better to win control over yourself than over whole cities.
Pro 16:32 It is better to be patient than powerful. It is better to win control over yourself than over whole cities.
1. Father, concerning my temperament and behavior, help me to “win control”. Let them never “lose control”!
2. Throughout my life, I receive power for self-control! I will never lose control over myself and circumstances around me!
WHEN SHOULD YOU CALM DOWN?
1. WHEN YOU ARE SCARED OR UNDER PRESSURE– CALM DOWN!
Pro 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
SO CALM DOWN! DON’T GIVE WAY TO ANXIETY!
KJV – 1Pe 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
ISV – 1Pe 5:7 Throw all your worry on him, because he cares for you.
EVEN PASTORS, CHURCHES AND RELIGIOUS AFFILIATIONS – CALM DOWN AND CHECK!
1Jn 4:1 My dear friends, do not believe all who claim to have the Spirit, but test them to find out if the spirit they have comes from God. For many false prophets have gone out everywhere.
1Jn 4:2 This is how you will be able to know whether it is God’s Spirit: anyone who acknowledges that Jesus Christ came as a human being has the Spirit who comes from God.
Pro 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
3. Lord, help me to always calm down and check properly before taking any decision. I will not hurry into error!
4. No pressure, no matter how much it is or may be, will lead me into the trap of death and pain!
5. Every precaution I need to take to avoid setbacks, Lord, help me to calm down and take it now!
ISV – 1Pe 5:7 Throw all your worry on him, because he cares for you.
6. Every worry, all forms of anxiety that wants to destroy me, Father, I ‘THROW ALL” OF THEM AT YOU!
7. Lord, free me from all forms of worry and worry makers! Free me now!
2. WHEN YOU ARE ANGRY – CALM DOWN!
IT IS COMMON SENSE TO CONTROL YOUR TEMPER WHEN ANGRY – CALM DOWN!
Pro 19:11 If you are sensible, you will control your temper. When someone wrongs you, it is a great virtue to ignore it.
GNB – Ecc 7:9 Keep your temper under control; it is foolish to harbor a grudge.
MOSES NEVER TAMES HIS ANGER – HE PAID FOR IT!
Exo 2:11 One day, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and looked on their burdens, and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people.
Exo 2:12 He looked this way and that, and seeing no one, he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
ANGER SENT HIM TO EXILE!
Exo 2:15 When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and stayed in the land of Midian. And he sat down by a well.
ANGER ALSO DERAILED HIS DESTINY FROM GETTING TO THE PROMISED LAND!
Num 20:8 “Take the stick that is in front of the Covenant Box, and then you and Aaron assemble the whole community. There in front of them all SPEAK TO THAT ROCK OVER THERE, and water will gush out of it. In this way you will bring water out of the rock for the people, for them and their animals to drink.”
Num 20:9 Moses went and got the stick, as the LORD had commanded.
Num 20:10 He and Aaron assembled the whole community in front of the rock, and Moses said, “Listen, you rebels! Do we have to get water out of this rock for you?”
Num 20:11 Then Moses raised the stick and struck the rock TWICE with it, and a great stream of water gushed out, and all the people and animals drank.
Ecc 7:9 Do not be hasty in your spirit to be angry; for anger rests in the bosom of fools.
HOW CAN YOU ALLOW PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT THERE WHEN YOU WERE CALLED, ORDAINED, MARRIED ETC DERAIL YOUR DESTINY DUE TO PROVOCATION – CALM DOWN!
Num 20:12 But the LORD reprimanded Moses and Aaron. He said, “Because you did not have enough faith to acknowledge my holy power before the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land that I promised to give them.”
I AM NOT SAYING YOU CANNOT PROTECT YOUR INTEREST – JUST CALM DOWN.
DAVID WAS NOT ANGRY BUT “MAD” AT NABAL! IF HE HAD NOT CALMED DOWN, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN BLAMED FOR THE DEATH OF NABAL!
1Sa 25:32 David told Abigail, “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who sent you to meet me today.
1Sa 25:33 Blessed be your good judgment, and blessed be you, who today stopped me from shedding blood and DELIVERING MYSELF BY MY OWN ACTIONS.
1Sa 25:34 For as surely as the LORD God of Israel lives, THE ONE WHO RESTRAINED ME FROM HARMING YOU—indeed, had you not quickly come to meet me, by dawn there wouldn’t be a single male left to Nabal.”
1Sa 25:35 David took from her what she had brought him and told her, “Go up to your house in peace. Look, I’ve heard your request and will grant it.”
1Sa 25:36 Abigail returned to Nabal, and he was there in his house holding a feast like the feast of a king. Nabal’s heart was glad, and he was very drunk, so she didn’t tell him anything at all until morning.
1Sa 25:37 After Nabal became sober the next morning, his wife told him all that had happened. Nabal’s heart failed and he became paralyzed.
1Sa 25:38 About ten days later the LORD struck Nabal, and he died.
I AM NOT SAYING YOU SHOULD BE A MUMU – JUST CALM DOWN FIRST AND RESPOND WITH SENSE AFTER!
Ecc 7:9 Do not be hasty in your spirit to be angry; for anger rests in the bosom of fools.
8. No matter how angry I get, let me have control over my mouth and actions! Help me, Lord!
9. The type of anger that will turn me into a fool – Lord, deliver and protect me from them all!
Exo 2:15 When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh and stayed in the land of Midian. And he sat down by a well.
10. The kind of anger that will send me into exile and far away from my purpose – deliver me from it!.
1Sa 25:33 Blessed be your good judgment, and blessed be you, who today stopped me from shedding blood and DELIVERING MYSELF BY MY OWN ACTIONS.
11. Lord, any impulsive action that I may take that will destroy my integrity and render me useless – help to calm down and do the proper thing.
12. Give me the power to always take responsibility for my behavior so I will not be destroyed by my own actions!
Lord, send me men and women of “good judgment” who will help me to calm down when it matters most!
1Sa 25:35 David took from her what she had brought him and told her, “Go up to your house in peace. Look, I’ve heard your request and will grant it.”
13. Lord, help me to calm down and be intentional about pursuing a peaceful life. Any tendency to look for trouble is uprooted from my life now!
