I have counseled people in the last 2-3 years who get married and the Husband travel after few months/weeks into the marriage and they have not seen him/her for 9,10, 15 years or more years?

Is it right to keep asking them to wait? Wait for what? And why do some put themselves in this kind of situation? Is it not myopic? What do you think? Please share.
